PARENT ELIGIBILITY

 

Age of Parents:
Married applicants between 35-49 years eligible. Single women 35-45. Married applicants over 45 yrs. please contact Program Coordinator at 800-488-5181.

Other Children:
Families with more than 2 children should consult Program Coordinator; specific restrictions apply.

U.S. Citizenship:
One parent must be a U.S. citizen.

Marriage:
Single women and married couples are accepted. Length of marriage must be at least 5 years.

Travel:
Travel by both parents is required to receive placement of child. This two week trip is completely guided and supervised by LSS-WIS staff. Plan on spending approximately 1 week in Ulaan Baatar and then completing the adoption process in Seoul, South Korea where the visa is issued. Travel is in groups of 2 families.

  CHILDREN
 

Gender: 
Both boys and girls; no gender requests allowed in this program.

Age:
Infants, toddlers and older children are available for adoption. Special needs children are also available.

Health:
Most children have been abandoned due to poverty and frequently show developmental delays. There is minimal medical/genetic or social history information, if available, on birth parents. Referral information about the child includes a brief social history, medical reports of varying reliability, and photographs.


  TIMING
 

Referral: 
10-12 months following completion of dossier.
Travel:
Travel occurs 1-3 months following acceptance of referral.

 

  PRIMARY COSTS
 

International Program Administration Fee. (Review of home study and documents; assistance/coordination of dossier; translations; program consultation; telephone; fax; mailing fees and International relief/program development).

Mongolian Foreign Fee. (Fees to orphanage and local government administration.)

 

 

OTHER FEATURES

 

The Mongolian program is coordinated by LSS of Wisconsin & Upper MI http://www.lssadopt.org and has placed 34 children since 2002.  There is a large humanitarian aid/sponsorship project (Family Preservation) available to support families in Mongolia.
