CARING FOR THOSE WHO STAY BEHIND
Every year, hundreds of happy adoptive families are created by Lutheran international adoption programs. Many children are given the chance of a lifetime – to have loving parents and a permanent home of their own. But many more children will grow up in orphanages with little hope of this future. Our agencies are committed to caring for those who stay behind and to ensuring that these children have some of their basic needs met. We work hard to support the efforts of orphanage staff and child welfare administrators overseas to improve the quality of life for orphans in all of the countries where we maintain adoption programs.

Over $100,000 was donated last year in Russia, China, Colombia, Bulgaria, the Philippines, and other countries to support projects such as:
repairing buildings on the orphanage grounds, installing floors and air conditioners
purchasing furniture, computers, cameras and office equipment
providing school supplies and nutritional supplements
training teachers and caregivers
hiring women called “grannies” to provide individual attention to children in the orphanages

A portion of the adoption fees paid by parents are set aside to enable us to fund these projects and continue striving for improvement in the quality of children’s lives. LAN is committed to remembering the children who wait, as well as those who care for them with dedication and extremely limited resources.
